1969 Chrysler VE Valiant VIP – Today’s Tempter
Solid original runner – could use paint and trim, or just preserve as a survivor
The VE Valiant launched in 1967 with an all-new design.
Despite sharing some sheet-metal with the US Plymouth Valiant and the Dodge Dart, the VE Valiant was a distinctly Australian creation with a smoothed out body yielding a lower and longer look.
The bones of the floor was carried over from the VC, but gained with both overall length and in wheelbase.
The Big Three manufacturers were intensely battling on the sales charts, and the new Chrysler VIP was the Pentastar’s answer to Ford’s new Fairlane.
It was highly-specified for the time: with a V8, three-speed TorqueFlite auto, power steering and power front disc brakes.
This late-production VE Valiant VIP is a solid survivor.
The seller describes it as a "good original condition" example, but is showing its age in places.
Coming on full Western Australia rego, the car is assumed to be in running condition; but the seller states that the car would need paint and reupholstery to bring it to top condition.
The car comes with original wheels and new tyres, as well as reconditioned mag wheels and around $3,000 worth of new parts.
The seller states that they do not the time to restore the car, but could be a good starting point for a project.
The body looks fairly solid, with some rust identifiable at the base of the doors and in front of the rear passenger-side wheels.
The interior is, if anything, a little better than expected with a clean looking dash and fade-free carpets and seats. There are however, a number of tears of the seat bases that could use addressing.
The car is based in Western Australia, and is listed for $21,000
