Rare Vermillion Fire, no rust, partial reupholstery and a freshly rebuilt 351 Cleveland

The ZD Fairlane of late-1970 was the final iteration of original big-body Blue Oval luxo-barge, before the all-new ZF arrived in 1972.

This series was the go-to luxury option for those wanting a mix of toughness, space and more than a dash of prestige.

These years saw Ford’s Fairlane rule the full-size luxury segment, and the ZD continued with minor cosmetic changes such as brushed metal hubcaps and additional body embellishments.

The colour palette was expanded with very-70s hues like Wild Violet and Vermillion Fire.

The Fairlane Custom was the standard variant, and was packaged with the 250 six and three-speed manual; though four-speed manuals, automatics as well as 302 and 351 V8s found on the options list.

The Fairlane 500 was ‘auto-only’ from factory and came with the 302 V8 as standard, but could also be optioned with the big 351 Cleveland.

This 1970 ZD Fairlane is said to be one of the first examples built in rare Vermillion Fire.

Under the bonnet sits a freshly rebuilt 351 Cleveland (not stated whether this is a retrofit or the original motor) coupled to a rebuilt C4 auto.

The car is said to be free of rust and is complimented by new shocks, springs, new engine bay paint and a partial reupholstery where needed.

Overall, the big Fairlane looks to be in good condition throughtout; if not entirely original, with some visible departures from factory being an aftermarket steering wheel and Cragar wheels.

The ZD Fairlane is based in Victoria and is listed for $47,500.
