Classic XT 500 wagon in solid original condition: runs and drives reliably

Ahead of the XT Falcon’s launch in 1968, Ford was tight-lipped about the breakout XR Falcon replacement.

Visual updates included a new grille, rear indicators, hubcaps and badges; while split-system brakes, larger tyres and electric windscreen washers made for some less identifiable improvements.

Three different trim levels were offered within the XT range, with bodies available as sedans, wagons or two-door utility and panel vans.

Under the bonnet, buyers could opt for either a 188 or 221 inline-six, or one of two variants of the 302 V8: a basic and high-output GT version.

This XT wagon presents in 500 trim, and is specified as a manual six-cylinder (not stipulated which capacity).

The seller describes the wagon as being in "beautiful original" condition, and says it "drives great" and has a reliable motor and driveline.

It looks highly original and in overall very solid condition, having recently received new tyres all round and a new carburettor. The dash and seats are in fantastic condition and free of rips and noticeable wear.

The seller points out some rust in the tailgate and base of door – but would make for a fantastic driving survivor, or base for a restoration.

The XT wagon is based in Western Australia, and is listed for $12,000.
