Iconic shape goes electric but at a price

British start-up company Morris Commercial has revived the iconic and quirky Morris J-Type van that entered production in 1949.

While the new JE may look like the old timer, under its skin is what’s claimed to be cutting-edge technology and a modular chassis.

The lightweight carbon fibre JE steps into the 21st century with a decentralised electric powertrain comprising a lithium-ion battery with a claimed 322km range.

Morris believes the JE will find a passionate customer- base of companies looking to stand out from the crowd with an eco-friendly promotional vehicle or workhorse.

The JE has a one tonne payload and 5.5 cubic metre cargo area accessed through the rear double doors.

Inside and out the JE can be customised with a range of single or two tone colours that add to its retro appeal.

Retained from the styling of the original is the pear-shaped grille, split windscreen, arched roof, distinctive front guards and headlamps that are now more integrated than before.

Production is set to begin late 2021 and the price tag is an electrifying AU$114,000.
