Turbocharged Series 3 Mazda RX-7

Late first-generation turbo is a rarity
There's no doubt that when Matasaburo Maeda penned the lines of the first-gen Mazda RX-7, he was in the process of producing a classic.
The simple curves were reported to have been inspired by the Lotus Elan, but this took the idea further in a far more confident piece of work.
Powered initially by variants of the 1146cc 12A rotary engine, these cars were quick rather than seriously fast.
They combined good handling and compact size to be a true sports car that, over the decades, has developed a big following.
This example is unusual, in that it's a turbocharged JDM, a late first-generation Series 3 car. When launched it claimed around 160 horses.
The NSW seller says it has a relatively low 101,000km on the odometer and has it priced at $23,990.
