1995 Mazda RX-7 – Today’s Tempter

Australian-delivered Series 6: 168,000kms and rebuilt at 120,000

Australian car enthusiasts have enjoyed an enduring love affair for Mazda’s line of rotary sports cars.

While early RX models are making big waves on the collector market and fetching money we never thought possible once upon a time, there’s a whole new generation of rotary lovers increasingly eyeing the last of the RX-7s.

The FD-generation RX-7 has found itself as something of an automotive icon for young enthusiasts and fans of Japanese sports cars alike, immortalised in video games and on the silver screen.

Most you’ll find are Japanese imports, but you may be surprised to know that they were sold new in Australia for a number of years – highly-specified with leather seats and sunroofs compared to the "JDM" models.

This 1995 (Series 6) Mazda FD RX-7 is an Australian-delivered example, currently presenting 168,000kms travelled from new, with a rebuild carried out at 120,000kms.

Seller describes themselves as "fussy", of ten years; and describes the car as fairly original, still utilising the factory twin-turbo setup.  It’s neat and straight and everything is said to work as intended.

The car does bear a few aftermarket touches, such as Autometer boost and water gauges, EBC brakes, Turbosmart Boost Controller, and Japanese Efini downpipe and catback exhaust.

The car comes with all books, and is said to need nothing to spend on, having had no expense spared in its maintenance.

If you’re after a late-model rotary to preserve, this might be one to investigate – it’s eligible for Club Plates next year too!

The car is based in Victoria, and is listed for $38,000.
