1965 Ford Galaxie LTD 500 – Today’s Tempter

Long-body pillarless 60s cruiser! No rust, in good condition

1965 brought with it an all-new Ford Galaxie that was both longer and taller than the preceding generation.

The boxier styling was on trend for the 60s, with its new vertically stacked headlamps loosely reminiscent of our ZD Fairlane; but low, sleek and with attractive pillar-less looks.

Engine options were largely carried over from the previous generation, with the exception of the entry-level 223ci six-cylinder being dropped in favour of a new 240ci six-banger. A new coil-sprung rear end also replaced the outmoded leaf spring setup.

This 1965 Galaxie 500 presents in upmarket LTD-spec and is specified with the 390ci V8 and three-speed auto. It’s fitted with power steering, power brakes and air-conditioning from factory.

It presents largely original except for lowered and reset coils, and a heavy duty sway bar. Aftermarket wheels are fitted, but the original wheels and hubcaps will be included with the sale. Inside the cabin, the interior looks to be in fair condition with no tears or rips.

An aftermarket steering wheel is fitted, as is an aftermarket stereo that sits in a removable cradle under the dash, with speakers in their original factory holes (retaining an uncut and undamaged interior).

The car’s body is described as ‘arrow straight’ and free of rust, paint in good condition.

Overall, it looks like a seriously sweet cruiser with plenty of road presence.

The car is based in New South Wales, and is listed for $29,000.
