1978 Ford ZH Fairlane Marquis – Today’s Tempter

ZH Fairlane in top-spec Marquis trim, 302 Cleveland, FMX Auto, original interior
The ZH Fairlane was a return to form for Ford’s once-dominant position within the full-size luxury segment.
From a high of 50% market share, Ford’s Fairlane fell to 27% by the start of 1976 when the ZH generation arrived.
Ford’s response was to take the XC Falcon architecture, graft on enormous amounts of sheetmetal to either end. Design was heavily influenced by the US, where size equalled luxury. The ZH Fairlane was big and bold, with improved standard equipment including radial tyres, limited slip differential, rear disc brakes and intermittent wipers.
The model range was further refined, with the 500 model taking place of the standard "custom", and the Marquis occupied the up-market offering, with standard air-conditioining, power windows and and twin "lounge" seats up front.
This ’78 ZH Fairlane presents in very original top-spec Marquis trim.
It’s fitted with a 302 Cleveland, FMX auto transmission and is in very original and unmodified condition.
The listing is a little scant on details and photos, however it does point out that the rear seats have some sun fading on the tops, but the interior is all original down to the radio and cassette.
If you’re after a slice of local large luxury – this Fairlane might be worth a look!
It’s based in South Australia and is listed for $19,500.
