1959 Volkswagen Kombi

Sold: $121,000
Shannons

The Kombi, a former cargo and people conveyance, is often more valuable than some Mercs and Porsches.Twenty three windows and barn doors render this one even more valuable. Built by the vendor as a reminder of his surfing days it's finished in white over dark blue and has been lowered and wears alloy wheels. Inside is a sea of cream and black vinyl and non-period air-conditioning integrated into the dash. Clever. Pushing it along is a 2-litre engine mated to a manual gearbox. Disc brakes have been added. It came with a folder of receipts from the build. Offered with no reserve. bidders were keen to relive their youth with all the work done. Gem!

1969 Holden HT Premier

Sold: $28,000
Shannons

holden-ht-premier.jpg

Prestige 1960s family motoring with quad headlights this Melbourne-built Premier boasts a small-block V8 Chev. A ‘father-and-son’ project from 1996, it was cosmetically restored over eight years. The Antique Gold interior has been renewed and is in good nick. A couple of NASCO accessories are fitted as well, and it comes with an owner’s manual and several workshop manuals, and was offered with no reserve. Early Premiers are hugely collectable, hard to find and this one just needs a bit of TLC to make it a standout.

1973 Mazda RX-3 Savanna GT

Sold: $46,000
Graysonline

mazda-rx3.jpg

There seems to be no end to what punters will pay for a Mazda RX-3 rotary. This mid 70s model runs a rare 12A twin distributor engine and is bolted to an equally rare five-speed manual gearbox. It is in reasonable condition for its age, but importantly it has all the ingredients for a great starting point to a spectacular project car. With just 82,565 kms on the clock this grey with black interior rotary was last registered in Japan in 1988 and has air-con and leather trim.

You are guaranteed to be noticed in this one. Not only does the 1963 Chevy Impala qualify for its own postcode, its two-door convertible body is a real eye catcher in dark blue with white rag top. This one boasts a 3 -speed Turbo 400 gearbox, the front end and suspension have been rebuilt and sound proofing added under new carpet.

On the block:

1990 BMW M3 Convertible

Estimate: $100,000-150,000
RM Sotheby's Comporta, Portugal

bmw-m3.jpg

This is one for the poolroom. A very desirable and orignal BMW M3 Cabriolet. It is one of 786 built between 1986 and 1992, with this particular car benefitting from the punchier 212hp 2.3-litre engine. It has three pedals with the engine mated to a Getrag five-speed manual gearbox.  Making this particular Beemer even more collectable is that it is one of just 12 'BB05' M3 Cabriolets built for the Spanish market so it didn't get the power sapping catalytic converters. This alpine white three-owner M3 Cabriolet has recently benefitted from a new new soft top, exhaust and brakes.
