Morris Mini Deluxe – Today’s Tempter
Cheap motoring icon: great first classic or add it to the fleet
The original ‘brick’ Mini is an archetype of vehicle design; with expansive variants and decades of production have seen this pint-sized motor car age into a true icon – recognisable by those with even the most passing interest in cars.
While the Mini lives on today in a BMW-owned and built guise, it’s the original two-box microcar that truly found its way into all walks of life: as successful race cars, movie stars and even the humble commuter.
This Morris Mini Deluxe looks to be a cheap and cheerful way into classic Mini ownership.
It appears to be an early MkI Mini – and could even be an Australian produced vehicle.
It’s fitted with a 998cc transverse four-cylinder and a manual transmission. The listing states that the car has recently received new brakes, steering rack, and wheel bearings – and is fitted with original and rare Hydrolastic suspension that was introduced in 1964 – but binned in 1971 due to increased production costs.
The body appears to be solid and presentable, and the interior is original with functioning heater. The rear seats and doorcards look to be in fair condition for the age, though the front seats show rips and may need reupholstering.
Overall the little Mini would make a fantastic first classic – or just another project to add to the fleet.
It’s based in Victoria and is listed for $12,000 (or nearest offer).
