After a modern family hauler? How about this V10-powered big rig?

Depreciation is the bane of new car buyers, but can be a treasure for those of us on the secondhand market.

It’s not always feasible to drive a classic every day, especially if you’ve got kids. And while the nation continues to take up SUVs in droves, life need not be boring if you look to the interesting options out there on the used car market.

Not that there’s many "interesting" SUVs, but this is as close as you’ll get.

This 2008 Volkswagen Touareg R50 would’ve set its original buyer back around $130,000 when it was new a decade ago. Now, with 139,022kms on the odo, it’s on the market for a relative pittance: just $34,990.

It’s got everything you could want in a modern car: Nappa leather interior, automatic gearbox, dynamically adjustable dampers, touch-screen SatNav – oh and a twin turbo aluminium 5.0lt V10 in the snout!

While Volkswagen’s "R" badge is the norm now on its performance range of Golfs and Passats; the Touareg was the third car ever to receive the sporty designation. This car even made its global debut at the 2007 Australian Motor Show in Melbourne.

The car presents well throughout with only minor creasing on the front leather seats. It’s fully-loaded, with optional four-zone climate control and finished in Biscay Blue Pearl paint.

The listing describes the car as meticulously maintained with service history from new and stamped up to date. Last scheduled service was carried out 9,000kms ago.

The car is based in Melbourne, and is listed for $34,990.
