Oh-so 70s VJ Valiant Hardtop: 265 Hemi-six and three-speed auto, very original

Produced from just 1973 to 1975, there was a VJ Valiant for every man, woman and dog: sedans, wagons, coupes and utes were all available with a slew of Chrysler’s Hemi-six ranging from 215ci through 245ci and 265ci unites available.

There was also the 340ci V8 available originally, though a 1974 facelift saw it replaced by the larger 360ci, and added front power assisted brakes, retracting front seat belts, improved NVH and a front stabiliser bar throughout the range.

Most VJs came with either three-speed autos or three-speed manuals, though four-speed manuals do exist and are highly sought-after.

Visually, the VJ gained a new front end, new trim and a larger palette of very-70s colours to choose from at the dealer.

This ’74 VJ Val is an oh-so 70s time-warper, in a factory combo that probably would’ve been pretty out there back in the day. But it’s those wild combos that people seem to love and chase these days.

Presenting completely unrestored, this Arctiv White VJ Hardtop presents with factory blue interior, black vinyl roof and "numbers-matching" 265ci Hemi-six and three-speed auto with factory sports console.

The car comes from long-term storage, and is a complete survivor with a body that shows its age. The interior is very well-kept however with a faultless dash and seats that look near-new.

The listing states that the car does run and drive – but will likely need mechanical reconditioning as it has lied dormant for several years.

Overall, it’s quite rare to find an old hardtop in such untouched condition. It could be a great base for a light freshen up, or just preserve and enjoy the story its patina proudly shows.

Indeed, we can’t help but feel it would almost be a shame to dig into such an honest survivor.

The car is based in Queensland and is listed for $33,000.
