At 5.7m end-to-end, this is literally a lot of car for the money!

The third-generation Cadillac De Ville arrived in 1965 as an extensive redesign of the preceding ’61-’64 generation.

The De Ville remained Cadillac’s mainstream luxury model, sitting above the basic Calais, and below the Sixty Special and Eldorado.

The main chassis architecture remained, with the same 3.3 metre wheel base and a gargantuan 5.7m end to end. Gone were the wild skyward tail fins, replaced by flat-planed wings at the rear, with sharp horizontal character lines running the length of the car. Headlights were now vertically stacked yielding a far wider grille. Standard equipment remained unchanged from the previous years.

Power too was supplied by the same 429ci cast-iron V8, with bodies available as four-door sedan and hardtop sedan, two-door coupe or two-door convertible.

It’s the preceding two generations that commonly attract collector interest internationally, but on home soil; these luxurious land-yachts are rarely seen on Aussie roads and should be well suited to sunny weekend cruises.

This ‘66 De Ville convertible was imported from Portland Oregon in the US. It remains in its original left-hand drive configuration and sports a rebuilt 429ci V8 mated to a turbo 400 transmission.

It’s had a host of preventative maintenance and useable upgrades; with a new radiator, heater core, brakes, steering, suspension, exhaust, starter motor and alternator.

It’s got new paint, a modern Bluetooth stereo as well as a new roof, hydraulics and pump.

The listing states that before the car underwent its restoration, it was virtually rust free – lots of money spent with many photos of the build available.

Overall, it presents incredibly well, with a spotless engine bay, like-new interior and faultless bodywork and paint.

The car is based in Queensland and is listed for $37,000.
