Solid results for Goss and Bullitt specials

Fords score high at Graysonline
This Goss coupe needed work and fetched $50k.

Last night’s Graysonline classic car auction produced some interesting results, with a couple of Fords getting stand-out prices.

First was a Falcon XB coupe, a John Goss Special, which needed extensive restoration work. A 302 V8 auto, it pulled an impressive top bid of $50,100.

The next was a 2018 Mustang Bullitt 50th anniversary. The V8 manual scored high at $86,000.

Two nicely presented cars from opposite sides of the Atlantic got good results. A 1969 Chevrolet Camaro, a manual V8, scored $48,400. This was a very well-presented example and was probably worth every cent.

A nicely-kept 1963 Mk2 Jaguar with genuine Minilite wheels and electric power steering also presented well and earned a top bid of $28,000.

Proving tribute cars are worth good money, if they’re done reasonably well, was a 1994 Holden HSV GTS-R replica. This one was a 5.7lt V8 with six-speed manual and went for $43,000.

There was also some good news for bargain-hunters. The market is still under-valuing Ford BA Falcon GTs at the moment, and the 2003 auto example was good buying at $16,600. Expect them to get some market traction over the coming years.

A 1982 Mazda RX-7 auto proved to be a very sharp buy at $18,400. Evidently the market will pay a fortune for a manual, but is less excited about an auto. Whoever bought this one did well, and would be smart to look after what was an exceptional survivor car. It was in excellent shape and would have looked at home in most collections.

Meanwhile a stand-alone auction in Queensland saw a Honda NSX auto fetch $90,100. That was a very good result, even though it had appeared in the written-off register, and had since been repaired and passed. NSXs are very much on the collector radar.
