Affordable project or characterful cruiser

Ford’s XC Falcon represented the final iteration of the XA generation which first arrived in 1966.

The XC was an evolutionary step with more power and torque, greater visibility, suspension refinements and cleaner emissions.

Cleaner emissions were an integral development target, in response to ADR emissions regulations. Six-cylinder engines (3.3lt and 4.1lt) gained a new crossflow head, bigger valves, revised cam timing, and a new manifold; which actually yielded a net power increase despite concerns from the public that new ADR regulations would results in a power loss.

Visually, the XC lost some  of the ‘coke bottle’ curves of the preceding XB and XA, with a more pronounced body line running through the rear haunches. Chunkier bumpers were fitted and a softer bonnet line graced the front end, along with decidedly modern square headlights found up front in the Fairmont.

This 1977 XC Fairmont is fitted with a three-speed auto and the big six, the 4.1lt: reportedly an N code optioned high compression motor according to the VIN.

It’s all original and matching numbers, and comes with all books and plenty of receipts.

Factory optioned with air conditioning and power steering, the car is also fitted with a NSW police visor.

Overall, it looks like quite a find if it is as original as it presents. The exterior paint looks well-kept, including the roof which is painted and not vinyl.

The brown interior from what we can see in photos also looks very well-preserved, and overall would make a great candidate for a minor rolling resto if you can track down some factory wheels and a factory tape deck.

Or, enjoy it as is as a very characterful cruiser!

The car is based in Queensland is listed for $17,800.
