Affordable two-owner Datto: body looks great, interior could use a tidy-up

The 70s saw these pint-sized coupes roam the roads in great numbers, though these days they’re a rarity.

The survival rate for these once-cheap-and-cheerful runabouts is low and many that did survive ended up as budget backyard hot-rods.

They were available in a swathe of body styles in their native Japan, including; two-door fastback coupes and two-door sedans, four-door sedans, wagons and even a ute!

This ’74 Datsun 1200 sedan comes from two-owners since new, and presents in decent and seemingly original condition.

The exterior, body and paint actually look to be fantastic for its age; it may have been repainted at some point in its life. The panels look straight and all trim is present.

This car would suit someone willing to take on a minor project however, mostly regarding the very original-looking interior.

The driver’s seat shows considerable wear with one hole in the outside bolster. The dash does have a few splits, the glovebox is scuffed and the carpet is mismatched.

Overall however, the car does run and drive according to the listing, after the previous owner had stored it in their garage for 15 years.

With some upholstery work in the interior, and maybe a lick of paint on the engine; you’d have yourself one tidy Datto!

The car is based in South Australia, and is listed for $8,500!
