Larger-than-life luxo-barge! Turn-key cruiser with nothing left to do

Throughout the 50s and 60s, America’s appetite for the automobile was largely unmatched; with economic excess and popular culture intertwined with the autocar.

The US was the world’s largest automobile manufacturer at the time, and its post-war optimism was reflected in the opulent and luxurious cars it birthed.

Cadillac, one of the oldest manufacturers in the world, produced larger-than-life land-yachts throughout this period, and were one of the most desired vehicles at the time.

On local soil, collectors have always prized our homegrown hero cars – with significant American collectibles imported sparingly, and usually traded with those in the know.

The Series 62, produced from 1940 to 1962, was one of the most popular offerings for Cadillac.

This 1962 Cadillac Series 62 Convertible was sourced by its current owner from the USA and acquired it at auction in 2012.

It was formerly part of a prominent car collection prior to auction, with mileage at the time of purchase reading just 37,393 miles. Import Approval papers included with the car mark an arrival date of October 3 2012.

Since arriving in Australia, the car has been used sparingly and has covered just 514 miles over the past seven years.

The car presents well for its age and presents in sound running condition.

The paint is good with high gloss and colour; though are a few small blemishes. The body is straight with all chrome and trim in great condition; save for a small few spots on the sills in front of the rear wheels.

The interior is original and is incredibly neat with no rips, tears or damage. The soft top remains in excellent condition as it was replaced in 2012, though the tonneau cover is worn and could use replacing or repairing.

The original 390ci V8 starts without problems, and the car has had thousands of maintenance spent on it; including fuel tank removal and clean, replaced brake master cylinder, power window repairs, new muffler, rebuilt power steering, resealed transmission, new weather stripping and new radial tyres.

The car comes with an extensive history file with all receipts from 2012-2017, as well as owner’s manual and various documentation.

Overall, the car presents amazingly for its age, and has been cared for all its life. If you’re after a swinging-60s luxury cruiser, no one did it like the Americans.

The car is based in Queensland, and is listed for $69,950.
