Rare Police Pack XD, one of two delivered in this specification
Ford’s boxy XD Falcon arrived in 1979 and was produced through to 1982.
A stylistic departure from the preceding ‘coke bottle’ cars, the XD Falcon was praised upon release for its forward and modern styling, winning a local design award in its wake.
The XD arrived in showrooms shortly after Holden axed the beloved Kingswood and downsized to the Commodore amidst a global oil scare, while Ford stuck to its full-size guns and was awarded with 5000 XD Falcon sales per month at its peak.
Outside, the body was all new, though underneath, much of the mechanicals were carried over from the XC Falcon.
This 1980 XD looks like it’s got a bit of a story.
It’s a Police Pack that is "believed" to have been driven by infamous former NSW Detective, Roger Rogerson – one of the individuals that the Australian miniseries ‘Blue Murder’ was based on.
According to a Ford verification letter, the car is one of two built to this specification.
While it was delivered from factory as a six-cylinder four-speed car, it’s been given a fresh motor, with a reconditioned 302 Cleveland V8 (approximately 40,000kms on the engine), with an Edelbrock four-barrel carburettor with manifold, extractors and mild cam.
The car has also been fitted with all V8 ancillaries like power steering.
The car was repainted in 2015 and fish oiled throughout, presenting totally rust free.
The interior too has been completely re-trimmed and the dash has been reconditioned.
Overall, it’s a thoroughly worked through car with nothing left to do except enjoy. The seller states that the car drives beautifully and "may have interesting underworld connections"… if you’re into that sort of thing…
It’s based in New South Wales and is listed for $35,000.
