Appears to be a post-1994 facelift with AMG bodykit in excellent condition

Mercedes-Benz’s SL-class traces its origins back to the original ‘Gullwing’ models, and have remained the pointed star’s ubiquitous drop-top luxury tourer.

When the R129 arrived in 1989, it was loaded to the gills with cutting-edge technology. It was one of the safest cars when new, whose party trick was a hidden automatic pop-up rollover bar that could deploy within milliseconds.

The angular body was underpinned by a near multi-link rear end, replacing the R109’s primitive swing axle and landing the SL-class firmly in modernity.

Behind the flagship V12, the SL 500’s V8 was the sweet spot in the range, featuring a 5.0lt 32-valve unit peaking at 240kW.

This black-over-black SL500 appears to be a post-1994 facelift model, indicated by the updated clear headlights with no amber indicators.

The car also features a great looking AMG body kit, and rather interesting looking Brabus tri-spoke wheels.

The listing stipulates that the car ‘drives like new’ and is in excellent condition.

The roof actuators, steering and suspension have been ‘recently renewed’ according to the listing, with the car’s odometer reading 99,000kms.

The car is based in Melbourne, and is listed for $39,900.
