1974 Holden HJ Ute – Today’s Tempter

HJ Ute HJ Ute

Nicely resto-modded HJ with fresh 327 small-block Chev

The ‘square rigger’ HJ arrived late in 1974 and was produced through to July of 1976.

Visually, the car’s boxy front end gave the car more road-presence and aggression; and was available in a range of body styles including four-door sedans, five-door wagons, two-door ute and a two-door panel van. At this stage too, you could get a HJ Monaro in both four and two-door guise.

This 1974 HJ Ute presents in restored and slightly modified condition.

It bears a fresh 327 small-block Chev with just 6,000kms on the motor. The motor remains stock with extractors. A turbo 400 with B&M shifter and Salisbury diff sends the power out back.

The car also features front disc brakes and modified front springs. Inside, there’s a GTS dash and steering wheel, bucket seats all retrimmed in black vinyl. There’s also electric windows, modern CD player with Bluetooth, central locking as well as an alarm system with immobiliser.

The odometer reads 167,857kms.

The restoration was completed in 2013, has been fully engineered, and all paperwork covering the work will be supplied with the sale.

The car is said to be in perfect running condition and "starts first go".

Listed for $35,000, the car is based in Perth Western Australia.
