Aussie family performance cars among a big mix of offerings this weekend

Graysonline has just opened up its monthly classic car auctions, with lots available in three states and covering a big variety of machinery.

Two Aussie icons got our attention in a big field of Australian, Japanese and Euro offerings: an XA GS sedan with a 351 V8 in the snout, plus a VL turbo Commodore wagon.

The XA comes with Ford paperwork confirming it did indeed start life with a 351 and a number of desirable features, including a GS Rally Pack.

It has the iconic V8 in the nose, which is matched to an auto transmission and 9-inch diff, a combination that's enough to make this a fairly lively and effortless cruiser.

Appearances suggest it's had a few modifications over the years, though nothing that seems irreversible.

The Bathurst Globe wheels are a nice period addition.

Its condition report suggests it's a runner, though not in perfect condition. Nevertheless, it's a very desirable model for local car enthusiasts. Located in NSW, it had a top bid of $17,500 on Saturday morning and had four days to run.

If you're more of a GMH nut, you might want to have a look at the VL Turbo Commodore wagon, with five-speed manual and limited slip diff.

That's a desirable specification and should have a lot of appeal for someone looking for something a little different to the usual auto cruiser.

Mechanically, these things have a reputation for being bulletproof, so long as the turbo tuning is not too wild.

This car, like the Ford, has been modified, but we're not seeing anything too radical in there. Meanwhile the condition report suggests it's a runner.

Located in SA, it was sitting on $3700 at the time of writing, with four days to go.
