Bring back the seventies with a family six

Holden HZ Premier - today's family tempter

Of all the stories and magazine covers we've tackled over recent years, it seems the features on old-school chrome bumper family cars are the ones that have really struck home.

Look at traffic these days and it's easy to forget that it was once dominated by cars like you see here, with Falcons and Holdens mixing it with the odd Valiant.

Finding one in largely original condition is a bit of a challenge as they tended either to be worked to death, or modified to the point where they're beatuiful but only a distant cousin of what left the factory.

The 1978 car pictured is effectively the last hurrah of the big Kingswood platform, albeit the luxury Premier variant.

In this case it's running a 202 six and Trimatic auto with air and power steering.

This example needs a freshen-up and, as with any project car, it would pay to crunch the numbers on what you reckon it might cost to recommission.

Premiers always sell at a premium over the more humble models.

This one is with a broker in Sydney and is priced at $24,500.
