2019 VHRR ‘Festival of Motorsport’ sees historic cars return to the track

Featuring a number of historic race cars from both Australian and overseas

Phillip Island Classic’s ‘Festival of Motorsport’ is set to take place at the world-class circuit on March 8-10.

Over 500 cars have been entered for the three days of racing, with a number historically significant examples from both Australia and overseas, ready to turn wheels in anger.

Patron for the 30^th running year of the event is none other than Dick Johnson, with other local legends set to compete. Amongst them is our close friend John Bowe with the ex-Carrol Shelby Allard we featured in the current issue of the magazine; and Jim Richards who will be piloting the 1985 Touring Car Championship-winning JPB BMW E24 635 coupe.

A number of UK cars will also provide a highlight for spectators, headlined by the 1964 Ex-Salvadori Cooper-Maserati T61P, driven by Roy Salvadori to second place behind Bruce McLaren at Silverstone in 1964.

The Dulon Ferrari Dino 2lt V6, owned and driven by Dr Keith Martin, will also be in attendance – following a multi-year restoration and numerous successful racing campaigns at historic meets both in Australian and in Europe.

And a former 2018 Goodwood Revival and Spar 6 Hour participant, in the form of a 1964 Shelby Cobra 289 Mk1, will also be one to see at the festival; now fully restored after a near-fatal crash in the late-60s.

The event will also be celebrating 50 years of Formula Ford and 50 years of the Holden Dealer Team, with on and off-track attractions.

Over the three day event; 1200 classic, veteran and vintage cars will be on display with a number of motorsport legends in attendance to sign autographs, including: Fred Gibson, Allan Moffat, Frank Lowndes and more!
