Future collectible with all books and history

BMW’s E31 8 Series, on paper at least, has all the makings of a great collectors car.

It was the brand’s flagship offering in its day, with avant-garde pillarless looks, wall-to-wall leather and luxury, and a highway-munching 4.0lt to boot.

Sales of the 8 Series were underwhelming when new; it was very expensive ($200,000+) and struggled with perception as buyers just saw it as a pumped up 6 Series.

These days, they’re a comparative bargain, with both 4.0lt V8s (4.4lt from 1995 onwards) and V12s available for little price disparity between the two.

This 1993 8 Series (MY1994) features the more frugal – and safer – V8 engine mated to a five-speed automatic transmission.

It’s an Australian-delivered car with full history, books and service history to date.

It presents in all original condition and is reportedly extremely well-kept.

The car is based in Melbourne, has 149,879kms on it and is listed for $39,990.
