1993 Nissan 300ZX - today's tempter
Nissan R32 300ZX

Prices on collectible Datsuns and Nissans have been on the march for a while now, with the likes of the Datsun 1600 and 240Z being the most notable.

Both have become very hard to find in unmolested condition and prime examples are now demanding big dollars.

So if your budget has its limits, what's next? You could do worse than the Z32 300ZX of the 1990s.

This was a very dramatic shape when launched and mimicked what was going on in the supercar world without the stratospheric pricetag.

Underneath the bonnet was a fairly bulletproof 3.0lt V6 claiming 167kW in local cars, with a choice of a five-speed manual and four-speed auto.

There have been numerous variants built for various markets across the world, with turbo versions being a particularly popular grey import.

This car claims to be an original example, with relatively modest miles (175,000km).

Overall they're a reasonably quick thing for their time, with decent handling, though their size and weight dictates they're a GT rather than all-out sports car.

They were well thought-of when they were new and could be seen advertised on giant billboards with a profile shot of the car with the caption "sell the kids".

We're not sure about the Ferrari stickers on this one, though the owner has offered to remove them.

It's already eligible for club plates in that state and isn't all that far away for others.

Located in Victoria, it's an auto and is priced at $15,950.
