Until recently, Porsche’s front-engined coupes were relegated as orphans and middle children of the brand.

While they were initially positioned as more affordable entry-level models, they’ve long been astounding cars. People have begun to take notice and like everything bearing the Stuttgart Shield – these handsome front-engined coupes are solidly on the rise.

The 944 arrived in 1982 and was much-improved over the preceding 924.

With a near-50/50 weight balance, full disc brakes and increased track and width – the 944 was immediately more capable in the corners, and the 120kW naturally-aspirated 2.5lt was a welcome step up in power.

The 944 Turbo landed in Australian showrooms in 1986 with a pricetag of $115,000 – or double the standard 944. The 944 Turbo’s power delivery was lauded as reminiscent of early turbo 911s, with peak torque arriving at 4000rpm, plus an addictive surge from just 2500.

This 1986 Porsche 944 Turbo is an Australian-delivered car, likely one of the early ones in the country.

The previous owner reportedly owned the car for 20 years, and the car remains very original and well maintained. The listing states that every button and switch has been tested and is functional, and the car still bears the original cassette player, spare wheel and pump.

In pictures, the car presents near-faultlessly, both outside and in and has 245,000kms on it.

The car was originally delivered to Melbourne, and comes with a folder of receipts and documentation. Now based in the ACT, the car is listed for $52,500.
