The ZD Fairlane arrived late in 1970, as a facelift update built upon the ZC.

It was a high point in that generation that spurred a drastic rise in market (and road) presence.

Visually, the grille gained a more imposing cross-hatch design, as well as additional body embellishments and brushed metal hubcaps.

Most notably, the colour range on offer was expanded, and filled with pure 70s hues such as Wild Violet and Vermillion Fire.

The range comprised of the ‘Custom’ as standard, with the 500 taking the upmarket place.

The Custom was specified as standard with the 250 six and three-speed manual, though a four-speed manual, automatic as well as 302 and 351 V8s were found on the options list.

The ZD Fairlane 500 were ‘auto-only’ from factory, with a 302 as standard and a 351 available per option.

This 1971 ZD Fairlane 500 is reportedly all original and ‘unmolested’.

It presents in base catalogue spec with the 302 Windsor and the Cruise-O-Matic automatic.

The listing states that the car was built in December of ’71, and bears 63,450 miles on the clock.

It looks like an honest, but cared for original car with the interior and engine bay looking original and untouched, still in fair condition.

Overall, it could be worth investigating, as arguably one of local Ford’s greatest models.

If it is indeed an honest original car, it could be worth preserving – with plenty of potential for a light refurb.

The car is based in Western Australia and is listed for $35,000.
