Mid-range Aussie muscle the heroes for the night

This VC HDT Commodore auto sold for $66,000.

Bidding at tonight’s Shannons auction in Sydney was generally solid, with some strong results, particularly for mid-range AUssie muscle cars. However the final lot - a GT-HO Phase III (lot 56) - fell a little short of reserve at $660,000.

Meanwhile another up-and-comer hero car, a VC Brock Commmodore with auto (lot 55), fetched $66,000.

Midrange Aussie cars got solid numbers. An HQ Holden GTS 308 sedan (lot 52) went for $51,000, while a BF Ford GT Falcon Cobra GT went for $57,000.

Euro and Brit cars generally went well. Notable were a very strong $35,000 for a 1963 MGB (lot 29), plus $34,000 for an upgraded 1970 Fiat 500 (lot 11).

Perhaps one of the buys for the night was lot 44, a 1925 Bentley open tourer that went for $265k - arguably well below what a similar car in the UK might cost.

The next auction is in Melbourne on November 26.
