An evolutionary step in the Evo’s lineage, the step from generations V to VI was largely incremental and mostly mechanical.

Arriving in 1999, the Evo VI gained larger cooling properties in the form of an enlarged intercooler and oil cooler, as well as different pistons along with a new titanium-alumide turbine in the turbo housing.

These upgrades combined to elevate the 2.0lt inline-four 4G63T engine to a peak power output of 209kW when new and 373Nm of torque.

Visually, the Evo VI received a subtle and refined facelift, with the Evo V’s frankly gigantic fog lights now smaller in diameter and moved further outboard.

The zenith of the Evo VI range was undoubtedly the Tommi Makkinen edition, which carried over much of the standard equipment found in RS and GSR trim-levels, but also gained a lower ride height and Tommi Makinen-specific front bumpers, embossed recaro seats and 17" white Enkei racing wheels.

This Evo VI Tommi Makinen presents itself in highly-desirable Canal Blue hue, with optional (and iconic) Tommi Makinen stripes.

It’s largely original save for an aftermarket exhaust and coilover suspension, and a single aftermarket gauge near the driver’s side A-pillar.

Condition wise however, it looks like a peach. We can only fault the wear on the front seats, but fixing that would land you an incredibly tidy modern classic.

Available via Prestige Motor Gallery in New South Wales, the Evo VI Tommi Makinen is listed for $39,990.
