1982 Ford Fairmont Ghia XE Interceptor – Today’s Tempter

XE Falcons have been climbing in desirability as of late, as they’re a relatively rare Aussie V8 option that’s still relatively affordable.

ESP V8s and XD Manuals are the most desired, with excellent condition examples nudging $50,000, with many base models being on the receiving end of modifications and some pretty intense builds over the years.

Originally offered with a base 3.3lt inline-six; there were also two 4.1lt six options coming as either carburetted  or electronically fuel injected. 4.9lt and 5.8lt Clevelands rounded out the V8 offerings.

This 1982 Fairmont Ghia is a pretty unique bit of kit, and features in our current magazine, Issue 419.

 It was built to Police-spec, and is one-of-six specified in silver. As Interceptors were usually blue, white or yellow – this car may have been ordered for a high-ranking individual within Police Command given the low production pool and high-spec state.

It’s fitted with the big 5.8lt Cleveland and has been hotted up a bit with extractors and an exhaust.

Cog-swapping is handled by a three-speed C4 Auto, sending power to the big rear Simmons via a factory 9-inch diff.

It’s been fitted with electronic ignition, and all instruments and gauges have been refreshed, if needed, to working order.

The car never had any rust on the body, though the seller has cleaned up a few patches in the paint with the whole car receiving a new coat of clear.

It’s a unique car from factory, made even more so by its current and caring owner.

The car is based in New South Wales and is on offer for $55,000 or nearest offer.
