While the previous generation ‘Pagoda-roof’ SL and SLC have exploded in value and collector-desirability in the last five years; as it commonly happens, prices of this succeeding generation too have enjoyed the trickle-down effect.

The top-model 560 is already north of $100,000, and prices of this lower-model 450 have been firming up solidly.

It’s a smart classic buy if you’re looking for a weekend cruiser that should at least hold its value for years to come.

The R107 SL Benz was built from 1971, through to 1981 for the hardtop, and 1989 for the soft-top.

The 450SL was fitted with a 4.5lt V8 that produced a healthy 165kW and an unhurried 0-100 time of 9.5 seconds. 450s were solely offered with an automatic, either a three or a four-speed.

This one, finished in maroon-over-tan, is completely unrestored and original. It’s on sale by its current long-term owner of 13 years.

The seller states that the car has 215,145kms on it, which is a tad over 5000ks per year.

It has reportedly been well-looked after and constantly maintained with all receipts available as well as the original logbook.

It presents incredibly well in photos, and the listing implies that the car comes from a loving owner who would like to see it go to a fellow enthusiast.

The car is based in Queensland, and is currently fitted with a hardtop which you can choose to remove.

The seller states that all "serious offers over $55,000 will be considered".
