VACC Centennial Cavalcade sees 100 years of cars on the road

See the automobile’s history on display through Victoria on September 22

Parading up the Calder Highway on September 22, the Victorian Automobile Chamber of Commerce’s Centennial Cavalcade will be a rolling display of the automobile’s history in Australia.

Over 100 vehicles from 100 different years and 46 different marques will roll from Calder Raceway from around 8.30am, up to Bendigo – finishing off with a grand show and shine in the town hall precinct.

Featuring a mix of passenger cars, commercial vehicles, trucks and motorcycles: the cavalcade will be waved off by event ambassador Shane Jacobson, who will be driving his very own HQ Ute, and led by a 1918 Buick E644 Roadster.

Throughout the 100-vehicle lineup, other highlights will include the 1969 Aston Martin DBS Vantage used in the James Bond movies, the 1947 Rover P2 Sports Saloon featured in The Dressmaker, a 1932 Chrysler Imperial formerly owned by infamous gangster Legs Diamond, a unique 1939 Hanomag Beetle prototype, and a former Bathurst 1968 Holden Dealer Team HK 327 GTS Monaro.

Various other landmark cars will be in attendance, including a 1945 Willys Jeep, a 1923 Fiat Gentleman’s Roadster, 1956 Mercedes-Benz 300SL ‘Gullwing’, 1983 Audi Quattro, and a 1986 Ferrari Testarossa.

For punters wanting to gaze upon Australia’s motoring history: the cavalcade will commence up the Calder Freeway from 8:30am on September 22, and will arrive in Bendigo around 10:30am.

The fleet will be on display for the Centennial Show N Shine in the Bendigo Town Hall precinct, with food and entertainment.
