There are niche collector communities for everything these days: ex-cop cars, ex-fire trucks, ex-posties – even hearses.

And of course, there’s a group who absolutely love owning ex-military vehicles as their weekend recreation car.

The AM General 'Humvee' or HMMWV (High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle) may not boast the history of a Willy’s Jeep, but do boast a niche following of enthusiasts, and are a unique and quintessential representation of modern warfare vehicles that you could feasibly drive on the road.

The listing for this 1987 HMMWV states that the original unit cost was $220,000 when new.

This vehicle is reportedly unique and believed to be the only mid roof, hard top in Australia.

It’s powered by a colossal 6.5lt V8 Diesel, mated to a three-speed automatic transmission. The chassis is claimed to be very low kilometres, with the listing quoting 44978 miles on the odometer.

Despite its monolithic mass, it will reach a top speed of approximately 113km/h,  just enough for most freeway speeds.

The vehicle is also eligible for club registration, and would definitely be a talking point in your driveway or at a car show.

The HMMWV is available via Pennant Hills Auto Trader in NSW, and is listed for $58,990.
