Original “survivor” car was in Californian storage for 15 years

The 1964 Ford Galaxie was the final manufacture year for the second-generation Ford Galaxie which began in 1959 and ended in 1974.

The 1964 car utilised largely the same smooth body that was introduced in 1960, with a gently curved snout, quad headlights and more curvaceous roofline to the succeeding and more squared-off 1965 body.

Exterior-wise, the body of 1964 was even more sculpted and aerodynamic – with only the fastback roof available as it wildly outsold the old boxtop.

The base V8 was the 289 which was included as standard in the XL series. XL models gained new bucket seats with chrome trim, as well as lap belts for both front row occupants.

This 1964 Ford Galaxie 500 XL is reportedly an all original ‘survivor’ car and in factory-delivered condition.

The car features a factory 390ci V8 mated to the three-speed column-shift automatic.

A California car, the car still retains its original paint which the seller admits is a little faded. However, the car bears all original sheet metal and has no rust.

The car features new suspension, factory power brakes (with rebuilt booster and drums), rebuilt carburettor, new fuel pump and alternator, and new tyres.

The car bears 82,000 original miles, and rare factory options including slide-away steering wheel, cruise control and air conditioning (in need of pump for aircon).

Overall, the car looks to be in fair condition for its age; and would suit those after an untouched survivor car – or someone looking for an original base for a restoration.

The car is based in Queensland, and is listed for $31,500.
