The premiere automotive charity rally marks its tenth anniversary next year, and sees the events calendar extend to its biggest yet!

The Shitbox Rally for 2019 will span ten days, beginning in Perth on May 8, and finish in Sydney on May 17, travelling across Australia’s most gruelling roads, via the iconic Uluru – all in cars costing less than $1,000 (AKA, shitboxes!).

The Shitbox Rally is continually the single largest independent fundraiser for Cancer Council Australia, and shattered records with its 2018 rally which raised a whopping $1,974 million dollars. Subsequently, with the usual seven-day event blowing out to a ten day rally for its ten year anniversary, the organisers have set an unprecedented fundraising goal of $2 million.

James Freeman founded Shitbox Rally in 2009 after both of his parents died of cancer within a 12 month period, said that since the Rally’s inception; they’ve raised a total of $14,782 million dollars for the Cancer Council.

"When I launched the rally back in 2009 I hoped that within five years we would hit $1 million raised each rally, but I never envisaged raising $2 million on the 10th anniversary rally" Freeman said of the 2019 event.

"It is going to take a lot of commitment and hard work, but I am confident we will do it".

"The 10-year anniversary rally had to be something remarkable, and what could be more remarkable than a cross-continent trip".

Freeman continued: "Travelling West to East, the terrain usually doesn’t change as much as the South to North rallies, but that said, we are not staying on the same latitude so there will be significant variations in terrain.  There will still be a number of surprises for the teams and it will be a truly epic journey!".

We here at Unique contend that cheap cars are the most fun, and road trips with mates make the best memories.

So grab a mate or two, and buy a Shitbox of your own! Registrations for the 2019 rally are now open, and there’s no better way to raise money than to drive across Australia with your mates!
