One of the final Packards; three-owner car and largely original

1958 saw the final Packards ever roll off the production line, with the singular last car departing the Indiana factory on July 25.

The Packard line for this final year expanded to four models of varying body styles: a four-door sedan and station wagon, two-door hardtop and the Packard Hawk – a close relative of the Studebaker Golden Hawk.

Packards were facelifted for this year, but the brand was on its last legs and any redesign was mandated at a board level to be done as cheaply as possible.

The same preceding body largely remained, though new Studebaker-style quad headlights were attached in pods over the previous front fender recesses designed for dual headlights. At the rear, a second set of fin extensions were placed atop the previous fins, following the tailfin fashion of the period.

Taillights came from a 1956 Packard Clipper, and the front bumper gained a new low and wide ‘fishmouth’ grille.

Just 2034 examples of the sedan, hardtop and wagon were built in this final year, with the station wagon being the rarest – at only 159 units produced.

This 1958 Sedan appears to be beautifully kept, almost entirely original and, as the owner claims, unrestored.

The seller is the third owner, who bought it in 2011. He has fitted power-steering and a new radio/CD player, though the old one is still in its place on the dashboard.

The seller states that extensive mechanical repairs have been undertaken, including new bushes, new brakes, reconditioned automatic transmission and a new exhaust.

The car looks great in photos, the interior especially looks almost new!

With just 74,058 miles listed, and a roadworthy included – at $29,000 for a driving bit of automotive history, this could be a good buy!

The car is based in New South Wales, you can check out the full listing here!
