Drive an executive V8 sedan for the price of a new hatchback

The X308 generation Jaguar XJ8 hit showroom floors in 1997 with production ending six years later in 2003.

The car was a mechanical evolution of the previous X300 XJ8 with the major differentiation being Jaguar’s new AJ-V8 engine being the sole offering; available in either 3.2lt or 4.0lt guises, with the top spot occupied by a supercharged 4.0lt unit.

Visually the car is near-identical to its predecessor, with the only visual distinctions being oval indicators and by more rounded fog lamps and air intakes on the lower front fascia.

This 2002 Jaguar XJ8 Sport presented for sale here, is fitted with the naturally aspirated 4.0lt engine, capable of a healthy 216kW when new and sends power to the rear wheels via a ZF five-speed automatic gearbox.

Factory delivered in Sport trim, the car gains stiffer suspension and slightly more sports-oriented seats, as well as wider and larger wheels than the base XJ8. Visually, the Sport package sees the window surrounds painted in flat black as opposed to the usual chrome brightwork, with the nose finished off in a body colour-coded grille.

The seller lists the car with 189,000kms on the odo, which tallies up to a light 11-12,000kms per year.

All service books are reportedly up to date, and the car presents well in metallic silver paint and a cream leather interior with only minor signs of wear on the front seats.

Listed for $18,000, or roughly the same price as a new Suzuki Ignis microcar – for a classically-inspired daily driver, this V8 British-built sedan offers tremendous value on paper.

The car is on offer by Ladbrooke Machinery Sales in Queensland.
