Evo VIs are an icon of yesteryear’s World Rally days, none more so than the Tommi Makinen edition

The Evo VI was introduced in 1999 and was produced until early 2001.

The step from the Evo V to the VI was one of the more incremental progressions in the Evo lineage.

Changes were largely mechanical, the VI receiving a larger intercooler, bigger oil cooler, different pistons and was the first production car to utilise a titanium-aluminide turbine wheel in the turbo housing.

Visually, the front end received a markedly more refined face, as the previously gigantic fog lights were reduced in size and moved outwards.

Underneath the fantastically vented bonnet, sits a 2.0lt turbo inline-four 4G63T peaking at 209kW when new and 373Nm of torque.

The Tommi Makinen edition Evos carried over much of the standard equipment found in both standard RS and GSR spec-levels; but gained a lower ride height and Tommi Makinen Edition-specific front bumper, embossed Recaro seats, and 17" white Enkei racing wheels.

This Canal Blue Tommi Makinen Evo is on offer from a dealserhip in Meblourne. Details about the car are sparse in the listing, but has 48485kms on the odo.

The car does not have the ubiquitous Tommi Makinen stripes which were an option when new, and the factory white Enkei racing wheels have been swapped for period five-spokes.

Inside it features an aftermarket double-din head unit, and a turbo timer and A-pillar boost gauge can be spied in the interior photos. Those small parts notwithstanding, the rest of the car looks to be in original condition.

Listed at $48,980 the car may be a little pricier than some other high-mileage Tommi Maks available; but this car boasts half the kilometres, and could easily be returned to factory condition with the replacement or removal of a few parts. Either way, it’s a fantastic road-ripper!
