Big Brit with a V8

Rolls-Royce is one of those marques that people seem to sidle up to, possibly deeply suspicious about what it's going to cost to run, and then fall in love with once they've actually owned one.

One thing we've noticed with readers and contributors who've owned them over the years is that one never seems to be enough. Once you've got your head around your first, a second and a third soon seem to follow.

The Corniche was a long-lasting namelplate - in production from 1971 to 1987 - and denoted the historic firm's two-door offerings in soft-top and coupe.

In this fairly early version, you scored the aluminium V8 up front, all 6.7 litres of it, matched to a GM three-speed auto.

Self-levelling suspension was part of the deal at this stage, as were disc brakes all round.

This example claims to be in very good condition, with a new soft-top, and the owner says it's being sold due to ill healthy ("the owner not the car", they quip).

It's priced at $79,000 and currently lives in Queensland.
