The Brown and the Beautiful

Replacing the Holden HX and released in October of 1977, the Holden HZ is a range of family and commercially oriented vehicles built by General Motors Holden.

Assembly of the HZ took place at a number of GMH’s manufacturing plants across the country including Acacia Ridge, Elizabeth, Dandenong, Pagewood and even Trentham in New Zealand.

The HZ’s body style range was extensive, as customers could choose from a four-door sedan, five-door wagon, two-door ute, two-door cab chassis and a two-door panel van.

Power came from three different motors; a 3.3lt inline six-cylinder, a 4.2lt V8 and a thumping 5.0lt V8.

The shove from these engines was sent to the HZ’s rear wheels via either a three or four-speed manual or a three-speed automatic transmission.

This particular HZ is a ’79 Sandman two-door ute and comes equipped with the herculean 5.0lt V8 and four-speed manual.

According to the seller, the HZ has travelled an original 254,321 kilometres from new and is a genuine Sandman.

The HZ is $40,000 and anyone interested in this Aussie classic can view the full listing here.
