Few of the A9X, arguably the pinnacle Torana, were built. Even fewer remain and they rarely come to market. Which is why the similar and more attainable LX SS two-door is growing in price. This 110,450km example with 308ci V8 and Trimatic, in non-racy cream, attracted strong bidding and a respectable price.

We called it a 240Z. In Japan it was the Fairlady. The road to roof restoration and enhancements have been a labour of love for its retired engineer owner. One look shows the craftsmanship of his work. Under the bonnet is a turbo 280Z engine and five-speed manual box. The 2.8 litre blown six belts out a whopping 250kW at the rear wheels. Inside the interior has been given a painstaking makeover. Original 240Zs are commanding $55-70k these days, so at Shannons estimate of $35-45,000, this oriental express seems like a thrill-filled buy.
