Highlights from recent and upcoming auctions...

1977 Holden LX SS Torana
Sold $81,000

Lloyds Auctions

Few of the A9X, arguably the pinnacle Torana, were built. Even fewer remain and they rarely come to market. Which is why the similar and more attainable LX SS two-door is growing in price. This 110,450km example with 308ci V8 and Trimatic, in non-racy cream, attracted strong bidding and a respectable price.

1985 Holden VK Group A

Sold $200,000
Lloyds Auctions

Perhaps Peter Brock’s finest work, the Blue Meanie's status and value continue to escalate.

Who knew that gems like this 10,892km example still exist? It's number 64 of the 500 total build.

Brock built them to comply with Group A touring car homologation, taking on the best in Australia and the world in a race version.

2018 Bugatti Chiron

Passed in: $4.3M
Mecum, Kissimmee

Bugatti -chiron

How does 8-litres, four turbochargers, 16 cylinders in a W configuration, four-wheel drive and 1479 horsepower grab you? One of a total production of 500, this Black and Blue carbon exterior Chiron has 400km on the clock and features an eye-watering $510,950 of options. It has a top speed of 420km/h and from standstill it will have you doing 305km/h in just 13.6 seconds.

Coming up:

1971 Datsun Fairlady (240Z) coupe

Shannons Melbourne, Feb 19, 2018
Range: $35-45,000

Datsun -fairlady

We called it a 240Z. In Japan it was the Fairlady. The road to roof restoration and enhancements have been a labour of love for its retired engineer owner. One look shows the craftsmanship of his work. Under the bonnet is a turbo 280Z engine and five-speed manual box. The 2.8 litre blown six belts out a whopping 250kW at the rear wheels. Inside the interior has been given a painstaking makeover. Original 240Zs are commanding $55-70k these days, so at Shannons estimate of $35-45,000, this oriental express seems like a thrill-filled buy.
