Love a good ESP

Replacing the outgoing XC Falcon, the Ford Falcon XD was released in March of 1979 and stayed in production until March of 1982.

It was a wholly different car to the XC Falcon, not least because it featured a completely new body shape with much more boxy proportions.

The XD was made available to customer in a number of different body styles that comprised a four-door sedan, five-door wagon, two-door ute and a two-door panel van.

Furthermore, customers could choose from a range of different model XD’s which included the Falcon GL, Fairmont and Fairmont Ghia.

Customers could also choose have their Falcon or Fairmont fitted with either the S Pack or European Sports Pack (ESP).

Power came from either a 3.3lt or 4.1lt inline six-cylinder or, for those wanting a bit more grunt, a 4.9lt or 5.8lt V8.

The oomph from these motors was sent to the XD Falcon’s rear wheels via either a three-speed automatic or a three or four-speed manual transmission.

This particular XD is a ’81 Fairmont four-door sedan with the optional ESP pack and it comes equipped with the thumping 5.8lt V8 and three-speed automatic transmission.

According to the seller, the XD is a real matching-numbers vehicle and has travelled an original 140,000 kilometres from new.

The seller adds that the XD was painted Hermitage Red approximately ten years ago and is 99 per cent rust free.

The XD ESP is $35,000 and anyone interested in this classic Aussie muscle car can view the full listing here
