Classic sixties ute

There's something about big American utes (or trucks, if you prefer) from the fifties through to the seventies that gets under your skin.

We have a 1970 Chevrolet C10 at Unique Cars mag, with the obligatory 350 V8 in the nose, and it's great fun. Big, clumsy, thirsty, but fun.

This square-rigger Ford F100 from 1962 is much the same idea.

Regarded as the third generation of the F-series (see this excellent guide at Blue Oval Trucks), the F series by now had some serious engines in the line-up and this example is running a Y-block 292ci (4.8lt) V8.

That powerplant was used in Ford cars, such as Mercury and Thunderbird, from 1955 and lasted in the truck range for many years. Much-modified versions in fact appeared in trucks in some markets through to the 1980s.

This example is a right-hand-drive manual.

The owner says much of the hard restoration work has been done - including rust repairs - and that it's a fairly easy project to finish off.

Located in Tasmania, it's priced at $28,500.
