Video of the Week: Sabine Schmitz at the Nürburgring

How’s this for overtaking?!

Many will already know who Sabine Schmitz thanks to her many exploits on the BBC’s ever popular television series, Top Gear.

What many may not know is that when she’s not showing Jeremy Clarkson how to drive a diesel Jaguar S-Type around the Nürburgring, or more recently, making Chris Evans vomit all down the side of an Audi R8 at Laguna Seca, she is, in fact, a properly brilliant racecar driver.

Schmitz has had her fair share of accolades over the years, most of which at the fabled Nürburgring Nordschleife in Germany, where she’s taken out many podium finishes.

This isn’t really a surprise though, because by her own admission, Schmitz reckons she’s completed close to 20,000 laps of the 20 kilometre track, which is just absurd!

Anyway, this video shows Schmitz in her true element – overtaking everyone in her Frikadelli Racing Team 911 GT3 R at the Nürburgring.

The video starts with Schmitz starting near the back of the grid on the first lap of the ADAC Reinoldus-Langstreckenrennen endurance race.

What follows is a total onslaught that sees Schmitz overtake an absolute plethora of other racers with apparent ease.

It’s a brilliant bit of racing, and thanks to her commanding overtaking skills, Schmitz and her co-drivers go on to win the race.
