Big bucks for the McQueen special

We were absolutely besotted when Ford released their new special edition Bullitt Mustang last week, and obviously we weren’t the only ones, because build number one of the homage special has just been sold at Barrett-Jackson’s Scottsdale auction for a whopping $300,000 US dollars (roughly $375,000 AUD)!

That’s a massive amount of money, and although Ford hasn’t actually disclosed how much the new Bullitt ‘Stang will cost when it goes on sale later this year, we’ve got to assume that the winning bid is well above list price.

That it was sold for so much money is great news for the Blue Oval, as it shows there’s a very healthy appetite for special editions of the Mustang moving forward.

The auction result is also great news for Boys Republic; a school in California which focusses on helping educate troubled adolescents, as all of the $300,000 raised from the winning bid was donated to the school, which Steve McQueen himself attended.

There’s still no word yet if we’ll be lucky enough to score some examples of the Bullitt Mustang Down Under, but fingers crossed we do, because the Dark Highland Green icon looks bloody awesome.
