You can’t have beautiful without AU

The AU Ford Falcon is the first iteration of the sixth generation of one of Australia's most loved automotive monikers.

Released in September of 1998, the AU replaced the outgoing EL Falcon, and stayed in production until September of 2002.

The AU brought with it myriad changes compared to its predecessor, as the AU was a major redesign of the existing Falcon platform.

These redesigns meant that the AU was lighter than its predecessor and also, rather importantly, stiffer.

The AU was also the first Falcon in Ford Australia’s history to be offered with independent rear suspension, which was optional on the base model Forte, Fairmont and S, and came as standard on the Fairmont Ghia, XR6 and XR8 models.

Customers could choose to have their AU in two different body styles; a four-door sedan or a five-door wagon.

Power came from a range of engines that comprised a 4.0lt inline six-cylinder, 5.0lt Windsor V8 and a 5.6lt Windsor V8.

The shove from these motors was sent to the AU’s rear wheels via either a four-speed automatic or a five-speed manual transmission.

This particular AU is a 2000 model XR8 finished in Liquid Silver and comes equipped with the 5.0lt bent-eight powerplant and four-speed automatic transmission.

According to the seller, this AU has travelled an original 119,000 kilometres from new and has been well cared for.

The seller adds that the XR8 has always been garaged and the interior is in excellent condition.

The AU XR8 is $11,250 and anyone interested in this V8 Aussie muscle car can view the full listing here
