Wheels of the King of Rock and Roll

Celebrity owned vehicles don’t get much better than this gorgeous 1971 Mercedes-Benz 280SEL, purchased and owned from new by none other than The King, Elvis Aaron Presley.

The Merc’ was bought by Presley on December 21, 1970, from Robertson’s Mercedes-Benz of Memphis, Tennessee.

Originally finished in Dark Red, the seller comments that Presley was not satisfied with the colour of his Benz, so he had it repainted in Alpha Crystal Blue Metallic, a colour very similar to that of his 1970 Mercedes-Benz 600 Limo.

After his death, the King’s Merc’ was sent to a prominent Museum where it remained until the start of this year.

The seller is keen to point out that the 280SEL comes equipped with a host of luxury appointments such as air conditioning, power windows, power steering and a still functioning Becker Europa radio.

It’s probably also worth mentioning that the Merc’ was obviously loved tenderly by Presley, as it doesn’t feature any bullet holes, unlike his Cadillac Eldorado and De Tomaso Pantera.

The Pelvis’ Benz is currently for sale on eBay for $189,900 US dollars, or roughly $250,000 Aussie dollars, which isn’t half bad for a car that was once parked out the front of Graceland.
