Iron Lion royalty up for grabs

Lloyds' Ford VS Holden auction, which takes place this Saturday, October 21, has got an absolute plethora of awesome Aussie metal going under the hammer.

However, Holden fans really are spoilt for choice with a dozen excellent Iron lions going to the auction block.

Here are our favourite Holden picks:

1969 HT Holden Monaro GTS 350

1969 HT Holden Monaro GTS 350

How’s this to kick things off?! This stunning ’69 Monaro GTS 350 is not only an ex-racecar, it was also campaigned at the ’69 Hardie-Ferodo 500 at Mount Panorama by Bill Tuckey and Sib Petralia. Since then the Monaro has lived a pampered and easy life, and, according to Lloyds, the vehicle underwent a sympathetic concourse restoration that was overseen by former HDT driver, John Harvey. Because it’s the racing GTS 350 it’s got all the good bits including the stonking 350ci V8, Saginaw close ratio four-speed gearbox, 10-bolt Salisbury diff and a bunch of other bespoke racing componentry. What a car!

1969 HK Holden Monaro GTS

1969 HK Holden Monaro GTS

This HK GTS looks like a super clean example and Lloyds say that the vehicle has only travelled 31684 miles from new, which is mighty impressive for a car that is celebrating its 50 birthday next year. Lloyds add that the vehicle comes equipped with a 307 V8 which is mated to a four-speed manual transmission. The HK is also sitting on a set of Hotwire wheels, which were apparently a popular aesthetic modification in period.

1970 HG Holden Monaro GTS ‘Bathurst’

1970 HG Holden Monaro GTS ‘Bathurst’

A super clean looking example of an absolute pearler of a car, this HG GTS ‘Bathurst’ has got the lot; 350ci high compression Chevy V8, four-speed Saginaw manual, 3.36:1 Salisbury limited slip diff, 25-gallon fuel tank, everything is present and accounted for. What’s more, Lloyds say the vehicle has travelled an original 87,936 miles from new and the engine has been refreshed by John White Racing. It’s also sitting on a set of period correct, dealer optioned Aunger Hustler wheels, which certainly look the part.

2005 Holden Monaro CV8-Z ‘Brock Group 3’

2005 Holden Monaro CV8-Z ‘Brock Group 3’

Last but by no means least, this VZ CV8-Z may look like an everyday Monaro, but it is a far bit more special than that. You see, this Monaro is the last ever vehicle enhanced by racing legend Peter Brock. It’s got an absolute plethora of modifications made to increase its performance considerably, but most importantly, its Brocky’s signature of approval… literally, it’s on the donk. Anyway, according to Lloyds, the Monaro has travelled approximately 1000 kilometres and we’re pretty sure there’s going to be a fair few collectors chomping at the bit to get their hands on this seriously cool car.
