Aussie muscle dominates line-up

If you're a fan of local Ford muscle cars, this Saturday's auction at Lloyds will be a must-see. On the block are a range of GTs of various eras.

The latest version is a 2008 BF II Cobra, with the 300kW V8 in the nose. A very quick car, these were built in tiny numbers to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Moffat/Bond 1-2 at Bathurst. This example is a manual, with no more than delivery kays on the odometer.

Incredibly, if your next car has to be a GTHO there is a choice of two. One is a 1970 Phase II with relatively low miles and apparently in original cunrestored condition. Your second option is a 1971 Phase III still in its race livery. The car was steered by Damon Beck and Gary Rush and was placing well until a faulty wheel ended their race.

If HOs are out of your price range, there are three GTs: a 1969 XW which presents very well, a 1971 XY in show-ready condition plus, and this is unusual, a South African 1972 Fairmont GT. That last one is essentially the same spec as the Australian cars but has some trim differences.

Next up is one of our favouties in the Ford line-up, a 1973 XA RPO83. Just 129 of these things were built, and this one is in the iconic wild violet livery. See this story on the model, from our archives.

Of course there are a host of other makes and models in the line-up for Saturday, including no less than four Monaros. More on them later...
