Don’t see many of these

The Mitsubishi FTO is a two-door sportscar that was first released in 1994 and stayed in production until 2000.

Although the GTO was originally built exclusively for the Japanese domestic market, strong demand for grey imports from other countries led to limited edition variants being delivered elsewhere in the world.

Power came from three different engines: a 1.8lt, 16-valve inline four-cylinder, a 2.0lt, 24-valve V6 or a 2.0lt, 24-valve V6 with variable valve timing (MIVEC).

The shove from these donks was sent to the FTOs front wheels via either a four or five-speed semi-automatic or a five-speed manual transmission.

The name FTO stands for ‘Fresh Touring Origination’ and the moniker pays tribute to the Galant FTO, one of Mitsubishi’s first sportscars.

The FTO was a very successful product for the Tokyo firm, and it won the Car of the Year Japan award for 1994-95.

This particular FTO is a ’96 model with the 2.0lt V6 and five-speed manual transmission and, according to the seller, the vehicle has travelled an original 184,876 kilometres from new.

The seller adds that the vehicle has been regularly serviced and has recently had new shock absorbers fitted.

The FTO is $5990 and anyone interested in this classic JDM sportscar can view the full listing here.
